the massive warp core powers the uss enterprise
Main Engineering is arguably the most important section of the ship; it supplies power to all ship's systems, including the warp engines.
Pressure, heat and other engine variables are are constantly monitored by the computer and engineers on duty to make sure that the engines are working at optimum levels. Systems on the main power grid include communications, transporters, turbolifts and life support; all are monitored by, and regulated from the duty consoles in Main Engineering.
By 2268, Main Engineering has been restuctured. The room now includes a raised gallery area, connected to the main level by metal steps, and the matter/antimatter is in the center.

- SAFTEY
HANDRAIL
The high gallery is surrounded by a red metal banister that provides a saftey rail - CONSOLES
The left hand wall is no longer a continuous bank of consoles as the stepladder to the raised level now takes up a good section od the space. Several work consoles remain, however, and display screens above them have been upgraded. - WIRE
GRID
The warm glow given off by the engines can be seen clearly through a protective window covered by wire mesh - COMPACT
STRUCTURES
The main structure in the refitted Engineering is the more compact matter/antimatter interator now located in the middle of the room - SEPERATE
SPACE
The chief engineer's station is seperated from the rest of Engineering. It is located in a small alcove type office before one enters the main area of Engineering - ACCESS
TO THE GALLERY
A stepladder bisects the wall that was previously a solid bank of work consoles. This connects the floor level to the higher gallery
