The U.S.S. Enterprise-D sickbay stands eady to handle all kinds of medical problems among the ship's multiple-species crew. It is also equipped to detect, contain or aid forms of life and biohazards not yet imagined, and the activities of the ship's sickbay staff frequently rewrite the standard bioscience texts.
The normal staffing level in sickbay is four staff physicians, three medical technicians and 12 registered nurses. These are subject to change according to department shift patterns and patient loads.
The medical lab attached to sickbay contains advanced bio-assay and lifeform analysis hardware, as well as genetic sequence, nanotherepy and virotheraputic equipment.

- OVERHEAD
SENSOR
An overhead surgical light is built into the ceiling above the primary biobed. This light also houses the overhead sensor, an array of biosensors and a low energy forcefield generator. - WORK
STATIONS
As in all Enterprise departments, the walls of the sickbay area lined with work stations which use computer interfaces and equipment. - DIAGNOSTIC DISPLAYS The sickbay walls flicker with diagnostic and sensor displays. These displays can be large or small, depending on the data they handle. Some displays have touch sensitive surfaces and allow input. Others report conditions, provide test results, or display graphs or pictures.

MEDICAL OFFICER'S OFFICE
This office provides a breathing space for the person in charge of all medical services. A large desk and standard trminal provides a convential spot for referring to the medical library, checking scanners, and even catching up on personal reports and administration duties. - SURGICAL
SUPPORT FRAME
Biobeds are fitted with connectors so that specific -function medical devices can be easily attached to greatly extend a biobed's range of capabilities. - CENTRAL
BIOBED
Both sickbay complexes include a central primary biobed, equipped with an overhead sensor cluster for more intensive diagnostic needs.
