The bridge on the Enterprise NX-01, located on deck A, is considered the most vital area of the ship. From here the captain and duty officers can can oversee all major ships's functions, ensuring that missions are carried out with maximum efficiency

In general however the basic bridge layout of central command chairs encircled by other duty stations will remain the same way well into the next century on almost all Starfleet vessels.

The main bridge is circular and is constructed on two levels. A metal handrail seperates the upper from the lower level, and traffic between the two is facilitated by a step. Directly behind the captain's chair is the Operation Control Room. It is the core controle of action and tactical command decisions. Wall screens and the table can display status and tactical information (maps, tactical schematics, historical databases). This room also contains an Operations Wall Screen. This displays the status of the ship during a quiet time, but can act as an operations theater during alerts.

The command chair, one of its kind in this class of ships. Located on a raised platform in the center of the bridge in order to embrace a global view of all stations, he is centered just behind navigation control station and faces the main screen. It's the usual place one can find Captain Jonathan Archer when he is on the bridge. From this location he can issue commands, receive reports, watch the main viewscreen, speak to the crew and personally control and override command functions. Controls are in easy reach on the arms of the chair.

Navigation and drive controles originate from this station located at the center forward of the bridge, just in front of the main screen. It is the place of Ensign Travis Mayweather.

The Engineering Station on the bridge controls the drive systems and other primary systems. It is located in front of the bridge on the right of Captain's chair. It is the place of Commander 'Trip' Tucker, long time friend of the Captain.

Located just right of the Captain is the Tactical Station, manned by Lieutenant Malcolm Reed, weapon specialist. Here is where the control of weapons and defenses of the ship take place. Weapons include torpedoes (4 forward launch tubes) and phase cannons (1 cannon installed before launch, other mounted during).

The Science Station is the scientific analysis center on the bridge. At the center of the station, one can find the observing device looking like large rectangular binoculars. This tool will be standard equipement for at least one century in Starfleet ships, until the time of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701. The station is the closest one on the left of Captain's chair. It is the place of First Officer Sub-Commander T'Pol.

The Communication Station is another vital station on the bridge. This place is the necessary 'router' for all incoming and outgoing data on the ship. The role of the officer in charge of it is crucial during contacts with other species. The future of diplomatic relations always depends on the speed and comprehension of translations of communications. It is the place of Ensign Hoshi Sato, a specialist in exolanguages.

The main viewscreen is located at the front of the bridge and displays output from sensors, visual communications or information from tactical and library computers. Directy to the left and right of the viewscreen is a short staircase that leads to deck B.

The elevator is exit of the bridge, it is located on the back left of Captain's chair. The lift links all decks but unlike future designs only travels vertically.

Directly opposite the elevator is the Captain’s ready room. As the captain’s personal office, many command decisions are made there instead of the bridge.
