Frequently Asked Questions
Q: So what's the point of this website? I've seen
many others with much more info on starships.
A: Ahh, good one! - Well there are two reasons:
1) I'm very well aware there are many great sites out there
with a hell of a lot of information on starships - but one thing I
noticed was that there were very few that (aesthecally speaking) looked
good. Most were just endless list and tables of information and pictures.
I wanted to change that. I wanted to gather all this great info and
present it in a website that visually was appealing while at the same
time being informative.
2) I really wanted to make a website using some of the flashy
CSS and HTML I know, and what better subject matter than one of my
favorite TV shows.
Q: Calm down, the website doesn't look that good.
A: Damn - you're not pulling any punches, are you!
- The site isn't too shabby. I like to think it looks better that
most out there (but maybe im deluded!)
Q: There are many more starships out there that you
have not included - why is this?
A: This all comes down to what information is available
- especially relevant images and schematics. You may notice
that most sections include a Master System Display and several images
of the interiors of the ship. If such pictures of a particular ship
dont exist then I simply didn't consider it for the final list, as
I felt they were vital for the site. Yes - I could have made a page
with just a wall of text about the U.S.S. Stargazer for example, but
that is something I was trying to get away from.
Q: So you prefer style over content?
A: Only to a certain degree - for this site. Like i've
said before I wanted to create a site that was stimulating to look
at and browse - and not just page after page of text, which anyone
can do.
Q: Where did you get all the information/images?
A: Countless sources that are mentioned in the links
section that im thankful for. 90% of written content is not
my own work, mainly due to the fact I'd rather not write fresh content
on subject matter so widely covered by other fans. However I did
painstakingly type out all the "pop up" information you find in the
red squares directly from the Star Trek Fact Files (which probably
breaks a dozen international copyright laws!) because i'm very obsessive
about packing in as much detail as I could.
Q: You have made an error!! - the ESP dual distribution
node on the impule engines are not powered by the fusion reaction
chamber etc!!
A: Are you serious! - Its probably not a good idea
to e-mail me if you find a similar error about a fictional piece of
technology from a TV show. I really dont care.
Q: Will this site ever be updated?
A: The chances are it wont. Unless I find more recources,
schematics and interior diagrams of other ships, this site will most
likely remain the same. Ideally, I'd love to document the entire publication
called "The Official Star Trek Fact Files" into a website - but this
would be an enormous task and I seriously dont have the time.
Q: What's your favorite starship on the site?
A: The Enterprise 1701-D
just because it has such a classic design linage. The
Akira Class and Soveriegn Class are
a close second.
Q: How long did this site take and what did you use
to make it?
A: About 2 months, I did it in my spare time. The design
stage was fairly simple, it was adding the content that took up most
of the time. That bit was hell!
I used Macromedia Fireworks MX for the images and good old CSS and
HTML for the pages. The whole thing was written in notepad (yes, really)
Q: I want to marry you and have your children!
A: I get a lot of this - take a number and get in line.
