the sickbay of the the u.s.s. prometheus poseses the very best medical technology avaliable

The sickbay of U.S.S. Prometheous is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a radical new departure for Starfleet ships - The Emergency Medical Hologram - Mark II.

The general layout follows the traditional design of previous starships. The sickbay is divided into four distinct areas; a research lab, the doctor's office, a surgical and recovery ward and an inventory where medical substances such as neurozine are stored. Although each section serves a purpose, the sickbay has an open plan layout as oppossed to dividing walls.

The research lab in sickbay consist of a basic desk with various medical analysis devices. The table has an access terminal that is tied into the ships medical database, this allows the doctor to cross reference his findings with the vast ammount of data that has been gathered by Starfleet Medical. This station also can be used to access general information about the ships systems, such as ventalation.

The centre piece of sickbay is the primary biobed. With a large area and the ability to form a sterile field around it, the primary biobed is where most important operations take place. A forcefield can be applied to this area to protect a patient or staff member from any adverse reactions to medication, to quarantine them, or to stop them from escaping. Alongside the biobed a small surgical tray can be placed to aid the doctor in surgery. State of the art tools such as the Thrombic modulator are placed here ready for use.

The Emergency Medical Hologram Mark II, one of the latest pieces of technology the U.S.S. Prometheous possesses. An upgrade from the EMH Mark I as found on the U.S.S. Voyager. Some of the improvements and changes include upgraded surgical procedures, a less intimidating appearance and better bedside manner - something the EMH mark I was infamous for.
