ready room

captain janeway uses the ready room to consult with crew members in private, allowing her to deal with sensitive matters in a location where the rest of the crew will not be able to overhear

To the left of the main bridge of the U.S.S. Voyager is the captain's ready room. There Captain Janeway can relax, study reports or hold meetings.

The ready room is the ideal spot in which to review status reports, hold one-to-one or small meetings with members of the crew or visitors to the ship, and to receive private communications. The captain's personal quarters used for more personal activity, but as there are times when the situation will not allow her to stray from the bridge, the ready room is more than just a formal office.

Close at hand

The ready room is roughly the same size as the breifing room on the leeward side of the bridge. It is reached by passing to the left of the elevated security officer's console and to the right of the engineering duty station. There is no hallway between the main bridge and the ready room; upon entering the two level room, one is immediately facing a curved desk that has two adjacent chairs for visitors. To the immediate right is another door, leading to an outside corridor, allowing the captain to reach or leave her ready room without passing through the bridge. To the laft are two steps, leading to a seating area dominated by large windows.

Janeway's desk has a LCARS terminal, enabling access to the ship's main computer. One or more PADD's, providing access to all relevant data, are usually scattered around. Operating far from home in the Delta Quadrant, Janeway's ready room still has much in common with those of other ships. It contains priceless and personal objects, and is decorated with small Earth-type trees and plants, expressing Janeway's love for horticulture. To the right of the desk, along the wall, a single shelf holds several antiques that reflect her love of the sciences.

The rear wall features a repicator. Janeway often uses it to provide cups of coffee, which she serves in an antique china set that sits on a silver serving tray on the centre table of the seating area.

The ready room provides the privacy needed for command decisions - Commander Chakotay and Janeway sometimes share an intimate cup of coffee while discussing the perils of getting home. Larger meetings with two or more of the senior crew can also take place here. It is also an ideal venue in which Captain Janeway can discipline crew members, avoiding embarrassing confrontations in front of colleagues.
